Murphy’s Company’s Failure to Pay Nearly $20,000 in Unemployment Insurance
We all know about Scott Murphy giving hundreds of thousands in incentives to corporate executives after the company had lost millions. Now, we learn that in 1998, while Scott Murphy was Chief Operating Officer of a company in New York, the company failed to pay nearly $20,000 in unemployment insurance and was later issued a state warrant for the missed payment.
On his campaign website, Scott Murphy criticized lost jobs, citing the loss of benefits and income to families, …
- On his campaign Web site, Murphy declared, “A job lost is more than a statistic – it is a family facing the loss of health care benefits, a steady income and a future for their children. The 20th Congressional District needs innovative leadership that will bring smart economic development and good jobs to our communities. That’s what I’ve done in the private sector, and that’s what I’ll do in Congress.”[1]
… But while Scott Murphy was serving as Chief Operating Officer of iXL New York, the company failed to pay nearly $20,000 in unemployment insurance and was later issued a state warrant for the missed payment.
- On May 11, 1994, Small World Software was founded.[2]
- On March 31, 2000, iXL New York Inc. was issued a warrant for $19,515.88 for failing to pay unemployment insurance and interest for the first quarter of 1998.[5]
- According to Synacor’s Amendment No. 8 to Form S-1 filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 11, 2008, “M. Scott Murphy has been a member of our board of directors since September 2004. Mr. Murphy is a managing director of Advantage Capital Partners, where he has worked since April 2001. From 1998 to 1999, Mr. Murphy served as the Chief Operating Officer at iXL-New York. Prior to that period, Mr. Murphy founded Small World Software, where he worked from 1995 to 1998, when it was acquired by iXL. From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Murphy served as an associate at Bankers Trust Company N.A. Mr. Murphy holds an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard University.”[6]
